I just finished reading Lucifer's Hammer (by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournell) for the second time. Lucifer's Hammer centers around the post discovery of the comet, the scientific communities assurances that it won't hit the Earth, and of course, since someone professes it will not happen, it must. Just the other day he found a book printed in the late 70's that spoke of a great calamity. Lucifer's Hammer goes through the survival of many people after a comet hits Earth. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it. As SHTF novels go, this one scores the gold. You even get a from space view of the impact! The Mote in God's Eye and Lucifer's Hammer? I am currently reading Lucifer's Hammer and I definitely find it fascinating. First off, this book was amazing. Just as good a read as the first time! I first read "Lucifer's Hammer" in high school and it made a big impression on me. Visiting with a friend he shared with me the story of a recent read.
